There’s a quaint saying about a cook sprinkling a little love into each dish they create, and we believe handmade objects contain a little bit of that same spirit from the artisan who made the item with their hands.
If you’ve been by the Shoppes, then you know, our artisans create unique art, reinvented furniture, sewn items, jewelry, and so many more creative pieces – perfect gifts for others or a treat for yourself! It doesn’t cost a thing to step into a local shop, yet it pays off as there is great satisfaction in owning handcrafted or one-of-a-kind items. When you shop vintage, antique, as well as, local handcrafted goods you capture part of the culture and history of the area.
Part of our goal at the Shoppes at Homespun is to provide a welcoming space for shoppers and vendors to share in this local identity. Handmade items are a form of art. Incorporating art into your everyday environment enriches your life with memories, human connection, and intentional details of craftsmanship. You feel it in each sip of coffee from a hand-formed mug from that potter you liked here in East Tennessee. Or as you show off that vintage oil painting that you just had to have.
This month we are featuring just a few of our Homespun artists and local goods. Supporting local businesses is so much more than just a tagline for a bumper sticker. Like the humans that made them, handmade objects are each unique. This gets to the heart of authenticity in handmade craft – the connection of human souls that happens when we physically pass an object from the hands of the person who shaped it, into the hands of the person who uses it.
